I developed a medical condition about a month after I adopted my first dog, Jake. Rather than buy a trained service dog, I had Jake go through training. Ever since Jake, I've adopted all my service dogs! Adopt, don't shop!
I've volunteered with various animal organizations for the last 8 years. Every animal deserves to be happy and I believe animals bring everyone happiness. Here, as the Volunteer Project Manager, I get to facilitate both those things!
Growing up, my family always adopted dogs and I knew then that I wanted to work to give animals as many chances as they need to find a happy life. Working with people as passionate about that as I am is truly inspiring.
Following a difficult year where our family and home were made the "poster child" of Tigard's urban chicken debate, we decided to make some lemonade out of the lemons and roll with it!
City Council voted for minor adjustments to the existing poultry/livestock code rather than pages of new restrictions that would have been devastating to Tigard's many poultry and livestock keepers. During the vote there were some concerns about where residents could be educated on proper practices to avoid any off-site impacts.
I thought, "I could do that! I already do that!" Mike and I sat down and talked about what we wanted to provide our community, why we wanted to provide those things and how we could make it work financially. We are excited to nurture the seeds of our idea and help it grow into a community of knowledge, kindness and sustainability.
